The APBT was originally used for dog fighting and bull baiting. Dog fighting still illegally exists today, however, Bull baiting was when the dogs were trained to attack the bull until they collapsed from exhaustion or loss of blood. In the 1900's the APBT was commonly known as 'The Nanny Dog', used to watch over children while parents might have been absent. Pit Bulls are known for their impossible strength, but in fact, the Rottweiler is proven to have even greater jaw strength, due to the fact both breeds have muscle nearly surrounding their skull, almost like a boxer with protective head gear. Today, the image of these dogs is so mutilated that it will take years and years to finally repair it so that Pit Bull owners don't have to fear loosing their beloved pets.
